How do you pack 100 sq. ft. of stuff into a 25 sq. ft. closet? I don’t know, but somehow I did it. Not once, but several times. All over my house. In the computer room closet alone I pulled out everything from bent and broken umbrellas to 5 cans of Silly String® to boxes of scratch and dent 45 rpm records.
What’s more, there was 400 sq. ft. of stuff packed into a 50 sq. ft. laundry room, 1000 sq. ft. of stuff in a 200 sq. ft. basement storage area, and… well, you get the picture. My momma taught me to “use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without.” I took that lesson a little bit too far. Over the weekend, it all came out and the yard sale signs went up.
In the media box to the right of this article I’ve posted a video about some pack-rats in Chicago. You’ll figure the couple mentioned in the video are nuts—loons, human curiosities, desperately crazy people in need of an intervention. Me, I watch the video and see kindred spirits. People after my own heart. Good, thrifty, frugal Americans.
God help me, but I do love junk!

Having recently spent seven weeks of packing and purging to move to a new home, this blog rings a little more true than I care to admit! We can drive past a “junk” store or a garage sale and I immediately scope out goodies that I might possibly need. But do I REALLY need them? Probably not. Do I enjoy plundering through other peoples’ junk? You bet I do!!!
