It’s getting scary outside. There are bigots, and then there are king size, out-of-the-park bigots!
Sure, the Tea Party folks are ignorant, belligerent and generally mean-spirited. That’s all true enough, but they’ve got a long way to go to catch up to Wiley Drake or Steve Anderson. As bigots go, these guys are in a league of their own.
Drake and Anderson take bigotry, and the rhetoric of bigotry, to a new level—a supernatural level, all the way to the top floor. They’re pitching stones all the way up to God’s windows, and they’re looking for a malevolent miracle. They say that if they pray, their God will kill folks they don’t like. I don’t think my God allows that.
Okay, this isn’t exactly the latest breaking news. In fact, I learned today that it all got started back in the summer when those Tea Baggers were getting all ginned up to do battle against taxes, flu shots and BandAids. Maybe you’ve seen these videos (at right) before. If not, you’re gonna be shocked.
What you’ve got on these videos is former Southern Baptist Convention official Wiley Drake (second vice president, 2006-2007) hitting his knees in imprecatory prayer, beseeching the Almighty to bring about the President’s death.
In the other video you’ve got Pastor Steve Anderson of the Faithful Word Baptist Church (Tempe, AZ) publicly praying that the President will be stricken with brain cancer so that he might die like Ted Kennedy.
Nice, huh? Anderson says that he hopes it happens today.
So, I’m just asking… what do you think?
It takes a really “big tent” view of the First Amendment to be tolerant of this kind of rank hatred and dangerous talk. I’m still supporting the First Amendment, but I think I’ll start sleeping with one eye open and my ear to the ground. And, I’m thinking that with guys like this running around loose we’re gonna need a few prayers of our own.

Thank God there’s a sensationalist news(?) channel to cover the kind of people who keep them in business.
No doubt, these nut jobs love the fact that the Fair and Balanced news channel gave them some air time.
Just read an editorial in the Monday edition of The Tennessean. The writer noted that tea bags weaken with use. Hopefully the bags that are teabagging around the country will find that they too have weakened!
On a positive note I want to brag about Little Mother. This weekend we took her to several yard sales. I was really amazed (and quite proud) that when some sales person showed her a UT vest she immediately wanted it. But when that same sales person showed her another piece of apparel I heard her say “hell no, I don’t want that! I stepped over to see what had agitated her so much and asked her what was wrong. My real mother appeared at least for a few seconds when she said “I’m not wearing anything that says Fo
I’m not wearing anything that says ‘Fox News’ I’m not that stupid! Even in the midst of her diminishing abilities my mom knows the difference between actual news and hate mongering! God bless her!!!
