Sick For Profit: Corporate America Says You’re A Chump!

The health insurance companies think you’re a chump. Maybe they’re right. Judging by what we let them get away with, one could easily conclude that we’re all chumps. Wall Street hotshots correctly figured you didn’t know a credit default swap (CDS) from a double-wide mobile home while they got rich playing high stakes games of chance with your money. They won, you lost. Now, health insurance executives figure you’ll bite on their PAC sponsored television commercials like a hungry wide-mouth bass. Hook, line and sinker.

You know the commercials I’m talking about—the ones paid for by outfits with names like “Americans For A Safe, Prosperous Family” or “American Foundation For The God’s Honest Truth.” Good, solid, American values kinds of names.

I’m talking about the commercials with all that razmataz about America having the best health care system in the world, how withering Canadians are standing out in the snow waiting for rationed aspirin, how our secret muslim socialist president is trying to take away your right to choose your health care coverage, and those that undertake to explain why health insurance cooperatives are such a good idea. Those commercials.

If you’ve found those commercials strangely appealing, it’s because they’re well done—well done in the way that millions upon millions upon millions of insurance industry war chest dollars and 50 years of experience can get things done. If you’re confused, it’s understandable. That’s that result the insurance industry has been paying for.

Sick For Profit doesn’t have the kind of money the insurance companies have to pump into slick, commercial productions. On the other hand, truth can sometimes outperform slick. Wouldn’t it be nice if, for once, truth overcame money? Wouldn’t it be nice if anything overcame money?

Three new, short videos from Sick For Profit and Brave New Films appear in the right hand column of this page. They are well done in the way that only truth makes possible. Watch the videos, clear the fog, and be confused no longer.

Don’t be a chump.

If you wouldn’t give in to the bully trying to take your lunch money you shouldn’t give in to the insurance companies. I cannot understand what would make a hard working Joe think that his insurance company cares whether he lives or dies. All he is to the insurance company is a big fat premium check. As soon as he starts costing the company money, that will be the end of him.
