Anti-Reformer Wants Liberal Babies Killed

by Prentice on August 21, 2009

Health Care NowThose Tea Bag protesters and their ilk are some pretty great folks, don’t you think? Good, moral folks with their values screwed on straight, or whatever the right phrase might be. God, family, country—and in that order. But, don’t think that just because they’re decent, God fearing people they don’t understand the facts of life. These patriots realize that sometimes we have to make hard choices for the common good. Choices like killing babies, for instance.

We all know that abortion is just another word for “killing babies,” and killing babies is wrong. For sure. However, if  liberals or women with democratic ideas are carrying babies, that might be a different matter. In fact, it is a different matter.

As much as those God-fearing patriots may hate killing babies, they would hate it worse if liberal babies should be born, grow up and start demanding health care. It’s a complex argument, and I’m probably not smart enough to articulate it well. So, I’ll leave that to the articulate gentlemen in the video (upper right column).

I know that you surely are intelligent enough to know that there are nut jobs in every spectrum of politics. Surely no one would judge a whole group of people by the one nut job that gets on youtube. Jeremy has been to several tea parties, and I’ve yet to hear him say anything remotely this crazy.

Prentice August 21, 2009 at 3:12 pm

Certainly, all political groups attract some nut jobs, and some political groups attract more nut jobs than others. Movements predicated on extreme, mean spirited ideas tend to attract a great many.

I am not sure how one reconciles a stand against abortion with a stand that perpetuates killing people through medical neglect. An Institute of Medicine study reports that 22,000 American die every year because they have no health insurance. That’s 22,000 dead people—dead because of the only health care system in the industrialized world that does not offer universal coverage. Dead because of unmitigated greed. –>IOM Study: http://www.urban.org/UploadedPDF/411588_uninsured_dying.pdf

I know that not every one of the protesters would agree with the man in the video, but I think that most of them hold similar ideas. I don’t think the man in the video is the exception to the rule. I think he represents the mind set of most of those who make so much noise at the town hall meetings. BTW the number of people who die every day in California from lack of health care is 8.

The “scariest thing in my life” are people like the gentleman in this video who have a mindset that compares hot button topics like abortion to every American having the availability of healthcare. Something like abortion is something you choose to do or not do – getting sick is not. If that were the case, no one would need insurance because we’d all be healthy 100% of the time. Sadly this is not the case and eventually everyone, regardless of political leaning is going to need health insurance. I don’t care if you call it universal or independent – we need something that is affordable for EVERY American – period.

The “nut case” on the video, in his off-the-wall and utterly inconsistent presentation, distracts completely from the original question. I’d really like to have heard an answer to that one, since I more or less support the war on terrorism and definitely support allowing unborn children to live. Oh, and since I also oppose the death penalty (or capital punishment), my curiosity to learn a possible answer to the original question increases! (Pro-life people tend to endorse capital punishment, alas! I feel very solitary in taking the other stand.)

And then there’s the word in upper left corner of video: CvilleAbort. What does THIS signify?

Prentice August 21, 2009 at 5:14 pm

Glen Alan… I believe that the “CvilleAbort” in the upper left corner of the video is just the title that the videographer gave to the video file. Since the video was shot at an event in Charlottesvile, VA and the subject is abortion, the fellow used a little shorthand, hence “CvilleAbort.”

Glen Alan Graham August 21, 2009 at 6:01 pm

Thanks for the explanation. I’m kind of glad the Cville doesn’t mean “Clarksville” (I’d been fearing it did, since the room seemed similar to one of the halls on the APSU campus.) since I used to live there & some of my family still does. Wouldn’t want a “nut case” like him for a neighbor or my family’s neighbor!

Where on earth do you find this stuff? Have you been eavesdropping on my family reunions?

Tracey Hudson August 24, 2009 at 10:22 am

I’m with you, Glen Alan – Pro-lifer’s scream over abortions but support capital punishment….killing is killing, I don’t care which side of the coin it’s on. I would also have liked to have heard the other guys opinion myself!
